Harry looked close to tears. "What do you mean she's dead?"

The Doctor pulled the sheet up over Seven of Nine's battered face. He didn't look happy either.

"It appears her regeneration cycle was continuously interrupted, but not long enough to waken her. The strain on her cortical node eventually built to intolerable levels and it gave out."

The Doctor's voice faltered. Tom took over.

"By the time we found her, it was too late to do anything."

Unknown to the men, two figures stood huddled in the shadows. B'Elanna gleefully hi-fived Janeway who grinned wickedly back.
